For violist Maylaffayza, believing that reading can open one's minds and being appointed as Indonesia's 2009 Book Ambassador, she hopes to share her love books and the importance of knowledge. In line with the coming World Book Day this month under the theme of "Reading for Love", the 32-year old rising musician highlights the importance of nurturing reading habit in families to create a stronger bond between children and parents.
"Reading will make the parents smarter and developing the children's mind and the interaction from the habit of reading together will bond them together," she explained. "Family is the perfect place to start the love for books. Starting from there, the effect would snowball and create a generation that is well-informed and able to make a change for the better."
World Book Day festival director Dessy Sekar Astina explained that Maylaffayza's view on the importance of reading shown through her insatiable appetite for knowledge outside her own musical word served as the reason for the violist's appointment as 2009 Book Ambassador.
Through her scheduled opening speech during the opening of the Indonesian World Book Day 2009 on April 23 at the Bank Mandiri Museum, West Jakarta, Maylaffayza plans to remind people to keep spreading the love of reading. (thejakartapost.com/fb)
